Battery Case for iPhone 3G/3GS Recalled

Just a quick note to alert everyone out there to this recall. The Rocketfish battery case sold exclusively at Best Buy can overheat while charging causing a serious risk of burn and/or fire hazard. 31,000 of them were sold in the United States along with another 1,000 in Canada.

John Deere Recall

John Deere announced two recalls today concerning certain lawn tractor models. One of the recalls relates to the blade brakes in which the brake can fail and allow the blades to take longer to spin to a stop – posing a laceration hazard.

The other recallis also on certain lawn tractor models in which the hardware holding the brake housing onto the transmission can fail and cause a loss of lawn tractor brakes.

Thankfully neither defect has lead to a personal injury. Hopefully we are helping to spread the word to prevent anyone from being injured.

Fire and Injury Hazard

The US CPSC in conjunction with General Electric and Sharp have recalled over ninety thousand air conditioning and heating units. These units primarily used in apartment buildings and commercial spaces contain a faulty electrical component that can lead to a very dangerous smoke and fire hazard and serious injury. Stop using them immediately and contact General Electric to schedule a free repair.

Fire danger – portable heater

The US CPSCin conjunction with Lasko Products has issued a recall of over 100,000 portable heaters due to a faulty electrical connection. This recall caught my eye because I have one out on my back porch for all my animals.

Thirty-six reports were received by Lasko of the faulty electrical connection overheating. Luckily, no personal injury has been reported in conjunction with the reports received by Lasko.

Contact Lasko for a free replacement heater. Stop using the defective product immediately.

Not Again Toyota

They are at it again – Toyota Motor Co that is!

Toyota is recalling another 1.7 million vehicles worldwide in addition to the huge number of already recalled automobiles over the last couple of years. Their recall is for a potentially dangerous fuel leak issue.

Similac Recall

Toyota recalls again

In addition to the already recalled ten million vehicles, Toyota has just announced the recall of another 1.6 million vehicles due to a brake problem and/or a fuel pump problem. The recall includes the popular Avalon and Highlander model along with some Lexus model cars.

Please check to see if your car is one of the millions of vehicles recalled by Toyota. Contact your local Toyota dealer to fix the problem and contact us if you’ve been injured as a result of Toyota’s defects in their cars.

Lexus rollover concerns

Consumer Reports (CR) rated the 2010 Lexus GX 460 a Don’t Buy. From their history, they don’t issue that rating frequently or lightly. The last time they issued it was in 2001 on the Mitsubishi Montero.

CR paid for the use of a Lexus GX 460 and put it through their testing routine . In their words:

“When pushed to its limits on our track’s handling course, the rear of the GX we bought slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control.”

CR tested two different vehicles with four engineers to confirm their results that the Lexus GX 460 has a higher rollover risk than other SUV’s. They have notified Toyota and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for their findings are are urging consumers not to buy this vehicle until a fix has been found. Infants die in baby slings

The reports of three infants deaths have been brought to the attention of the CPSC. The infants died due to suffocation in these baby slings produced by Infantino, LLC out of San Diego. Our condolences go out to those three families and any others that may have suffered the same loss.

Obviously, you should immediately stop use of these baby slings. The recall uses 4 months of age and younger wording but I would err on the side of caution and stop using it altogether. Over a million slings are being recalled in the United States and fifteen thousand in Canada.

Aerobar recall

As an avid triathlete, I could not pass this one by without a post to the blog. It’s hard enough to ride a bicycle down in the aerobars when they work but even harder when they fall apart in your hands. Imagine going downhill about 40 miles per hour and suddenly be left steering with your elbows or forearms. Yikes! Here’s a link to the voluntary recall between CPSC and the aerobar manufacturer, 3T. There is a risk of the rubber grips coming off of the end of the handlebars. The link has the information for replacing the faulty grips.

Sounds like there were only a few hundred sold so hopefully this will help spread the word before any serious injuries occur.
